Welcome to the website for the Kingsnympton History Society.
Here you can find information about the history of the village - the houses, the families, the trades.
Much of the research on this website was initiated by Geoff Keegan, and continued by John Barnes after his death. The scope of information available is remarkable, but in pre-digital times much of it was preserved in dusty boxes in attics and under beds! In setting up this website, my aim is firstly to make sure as much information as possible is stored online so that it is safe from fire, flood or simple forgetfulness! And secondly to make it available to as wide an audience as possible.
I also firmly believe that history doesn't stop in the here and now! In 50 years time, people will be as inquisitive about the times we live in as we are about the past. So one of my aims is to build up a present day archive that will be of interest to future generations.
We are making use of all the technology available, from video interviews, to flip-books, to virtual tours and more, so come and have a browse!
We are eager to hear from anyone who can help us add to the sum of knowledge about the village, and hope you enjoy browsing what we already have. Why not start by looking at a brief history of the village

RESEARCH
We are very happy to help people research their family histories in Kingsnympton - but some of the information is password protected.
This is not through any desire to keep information hidden - it is because we want your research to be a two-way process.
We will happily provide you with a password, but we ask that in return you pass on to us any relevant information about your family members and their descendants since they left Kingsnympton.
This two-way process will allow you to fill in the gaps before your family left Kingsnympton, and us to fill them in after they left.
