Blacksmith Daryl Ford and his wife Judy took up photography relatively late in life, but they soon made quite a name for themselves following a number of documentary photography trips to Romania. Judy was awarded a prestigious RPS bursary to create a photo essay about the remote communities they visited, and they were also invited to set up an exhibition at a property in Romania owned by King Charles III, which raises money for traditional crafts. Below, they talk about how they chose Romania, and what techniques they use to get such intimate pictures - there is also an article that Judy wrote for The Guardian about the project. Further down, Daryl talks about his earlier career as a jockey (which also involved contacts with the Royal Family!) and whether setting up as a blacksmith in a remote rural community such as Kingsnympton held him back when it came to doing business worldwide.
