Kingsnympton electoral register for 1970 - there is more information at the end of the pdf, but in a nutshell, this was an important election (summer 1970)  for a number of reasons. First of all, Ted Heath's Conservatives unexpectedly beat the incumbent Labour government of Harold Wilson. This gave Heath the mandate to push through negotiations for the UK to join the then EEC.
It was also the first election in which 18 year olds had the vote.
And Liberal leader Jeremy Thorpe narrowly hung on to his North Devon constituency, despite the party losing half of its MPs.
The register also gives a snapshot of the village at that time - with a number of prominent families, such as the Gills, the Bowdens, the Westacotts, and the Ayres.
Have a look and see who was living in your house that year (or if it even existed!!)
