The Story of Oakwell is an extraordinary collaboration between John Barnes (former chair of the History Society) and Amy Bowden (nee Luxton). Amy was born and grew up at Great Oakwell, and her husband Stuart grew up next door, at Limebeers Oakwell. When they married, they amalgamated the two farms, but they were later separated again, and John Barnes became owner of Limebeers. The document they have produced (which you can read here as a flip-book or a pdf) charts the story of the two farms from the early 1800s. You can also see a series of videos in our video archive in which Amy talks about growing up at Oakwell, and returning to run it with Stuart later in life.
