The 1970s was a time of heightened tension, and nowhere was immune from the threat of nuclear war. the documents on this page show our preparedness (or lack of!! there are a lot of blank pages!) for surviving a nuclear strike or other disaster.

This document from 1976 outlines the emergency protocols to be implemented in the event of a major emergency in North Devon. Although it doesn't specifically mention nuclear war, in the content of the time, and in light of references to `radiation hazards', fallout from a nuclear explosion must have been one of the dangers envisaged!
